This is a novel that was recommended to me by a young women who knew I had lived in Australia. She asked me to read it because she thought it was good and because she knew I was a reviewer and had some questions about the vernacular used.Firstly, I want to say I thought it was a very well done YA paranormal novel. Young Adult novels are written from the viewpoint of the main character and can be difficult to write well. This one was. There were a few "viewpoint" errors, but they were minor and didn't affect the flow of the storyline. There were also more than a few vernacular errors that I picked up very quickly but for most of the Australian readers they won't be noticeable. Less so among American readers. This is something I say time and again to the non-American writers I speak with. Please, Author, have it beta read by an American. The same is true in the reverse, please American Authors have it beta read by someone from the country you are using as your setting or the home of your characters. American's do not have "tea breaks" in school, we don't have "lesson plans" we have class schedules. Not a problem if you character is Australian and says "lesson plan." But when it is an American it doesn't work. My copy was from Kindle and there were edit marks still in the text. Dozens of them. Hopefully the author will get that taken care of.
The storyline is good and appropriate to the age the novel is targeting. Dealing with grief and relocation is something many teens face and they are difficult obstacles to overcome. The author has handled those issues with understanding and sensitivity. While this is a vampire novel the focus for most of the book is not on his uniqueness but on the struggles of Ara to fit it. I thought it was well done. I enjoyed the book and am interested in what happens in the next instalment.
I would like to have given this book a 5 star but will have to take away for the vernacular errors and the editing marks left in the copy. But still a good story and I will recommend this to my readers.

There are some fascinating aspects of this book that have lead me into overlooking the glaring errors, and the over use of vocabulary in general. In other words we get two paragraphs where one sentence would have sufficed. What captivated me however and took me past this was the fact that half the book was gone before David was officially a vampire and this kept us in suspense. When he finally comes out of the closet we learn he is far from nice and loves the kill as he lets us know over and over again much to the fascination of Ara-rose. We excuse this along with her childish behaviour because of age and a tragic past. Her avowals of love given without any sense of discrimination (obviously a triangle sells books) does get annoying but given the fact that she is a teenager and that we have an ambiguous ending we find it reasonable to consider the next two books in the series. Well, in saying that I have a niggling doubt but will take the risk. Stay with me for the next one and we will see what happens.
First let me say I can't complain too much about something that's free. I did enjoy the story is was a bit like Twilight but not so much that it's a clone. I want to start with the problems than move to the likes of the story. The story is actually long for no reason really. A lot of it was details of her feelings, turmoil, uncertainty that sort of thing. There would be one page of nothing but her feelings on the matter, then a page later I would think I went back a page because it was identical to the other. The catalyst, the part identifying who David (the hearthrob)is didn't get his secret revealed until halfway into the story. The last problem I had with the story it just ended like maybe I didn't finish downloading the rest or something. I have to say though now I'm intrigued to buy the next book so I guess that was the plan.
The good that I like about the story is Amara-Rosa aka Ara-Rose aka Ara. In the midst of tragedy, the underdog, the not so popular girl getting the cliche uncatchable hot guy. I really liked David he was what made me really like the story. In a lot of these teen stories the guy at some point is mean, doing his best to push away his true love for her best interest. David isn't like that. He puts his heart on his sleeve for Ara. I hope that continues and he stays a great "guy".
Tears of the broken left me feeling unsure about whether or not I liked it. The beginning was a bit confusing with the way Ara-Rose was all scared and nervous, shy even, when she went to the school. But then suddenly halfway through the school day, she's no longer shy or scared. She was outgoing and anything but shy. I got mixed signals on how she was supposed to feel.I liked David until he got all weepy and sappy. That is not something I want in a male lead. Mike's character was much more interesting even though he was only mentioned a few times.I think Ara's constant mood changes were childish and made me stop a couple times while reading and left me wondering whether or not I really wanted to finish it. After putting it down for a day or two, I finally picked it back up and finished it.All through the book I kept waiting for something major or even remotely interesting to happen but it never did. I was left thinking WTH this cant be the end. I read the whole book just to get to the point when Mike was supposed to visit, but he never did. I now know that there is a second book that is already out but I am unsure if I will get it or not simply because I dont want to spend another six hours reading a book that goes nowhere like this one did.
